Kuala Lumpur defies categorization as a conservative Muslim country, since the non-Muslim population is significantly large, and this is reflected in the rich and creative nightlife, quite unlike the hypocritical offerings in many other Muslim countries. Step out of you hotel on any evening on a Friday or Saturday night and you will instantly feel the life and throb of a vibrant nightlife that often remains energetic until 3 the next morning. It seems that KL is where exotic dance styles like Latin or Bhangra are in demand. Kuala Lumpur is a good rival for Singapore and Bangkok as a place to hit the town. So, it IS possible to have fun in an Islamic country. See for yourself.
The central area is called KLCC, Kuala Lumpur Civic Center, and by day it is the center of Malaysia’s finance, trade and commerce. However, when night falls, as it does at essentially the same time all year long, KLCC is transformed into a hotbed of entertainment and late-night fun. There are clubs, bars and pubs scattered throughout KLCC, mostly along Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Sultan Ismail. This is a good area to start your exploration of KL nightlife, though many other areas have good attractions as well.
Beach Club Café
This bar has a beachside theme and is popular with international tourists and expats. It has live performances and DJs that fill the dance floor, and is a reputedly the best pickup spot.
Passion
Passion’s intimate atmosphere attracts a trendy crowd into its stylish realm where a state-of-the-art audiovisual system will stimulate you. There is also a chill-out balcony and even oversized beds where you can hold more private conversations.
Aloha Club. Bistro & VIP Lounge
This club has an Hawaiian theme, with beach huts lining outside its front and inside for its dance club, bistro and an exclusive VIP lounge.
Sky Bar
Surrounded by exhilarating views of the nighttime city skyline, the Sky Bar is the city’s hippest bar with its contemporary, chic décor and chill-out atmosphere.
Zouk & Velvet Underground
Perhaps one of the most well known nightclubs in KLCC, Zouk has four different dance rooms, each with different styles of music, and regular appearances of international deejays. Velvet Underground is Zouk’s elite sister club sensuously classy with its velvet-lined walls.
Glass Lounge in the Crowne Mutiara Hotel
This is a more relaxed place for those who want a place to meet and chat while enjoying live bands or soothing piano music. It has an extensive beverage menu and super gourmet sandwiches
12 SI at 12 Jalan Sultan Ismail
